모터센스 (Motor Sense)

모터센스 (Motor Sense) is KOPENS' motor diagnostics and vibration analysis service. Unlike a general PLC, it takes vibration, current, and speed information directly from the motor itself and reports the motor's health status.

This gateway is built to collect Motor Sense data as well, over an OPC-UA channel. You can therefore register Motor Sense from the [Connections] screen without installing a separate module.

How it differs from standard OPC-UA

ItemStandard OPC-UAMotor Sense mode
Automatic asset (motor) discoveryNot availableThe asset list is retrieved automatically
Asset selectionUser enters node IDs manuallyPick motors on screen and add them
Additional informationNoneMetadata such as motor serial number and installation location

Put simply, once you enter the IP and port, the gateway retrieves the list of registerable motors on its own and shows it on screen. Just pick the motors you want to monitor and add them.

Registration procedure

  1. Click the [Connections] menu at the top of the main screen
  2. Click [Add Connection] in the upper right
  3. Select 모터센스 (Motor Sense) from the card list

Input form

FieldWhat to enterNotes
Connection nameThe name shown on screen (e.g. 1라인 모터센스)
Asset URL formatmotor-sense is selected automaticallyNo change required
Server IPIP of the Motor Sense OPC-UA serverFilled in automatically if OPC-UA is already registered on the same gateway
Server portOPC-UA port (usually 4840)

If OPC-UA is already registered at your site, the server IP and port are filled in automatically. If this is a first-time setup, get the IP and port from your Motor Sense contact and enter them.

Selecting assets (motors)

After you enter the connection information and proceed through the form, the gateway connects to the Motor Sense server and automatically retrieves the list of registerable motors.

The motors appear as cards on screen. Each card shows:

  • Motor name / serial number
  • Installation location (if available)
  • Current status (normal / inspection / stopped, etc.)

Click the motors you want to monitor to move them to the [Selected Motors] area on the right, then click [Save] to complete registration.

Information retrieved automatically after registration

For each selected motor, the following items are registered automatically as tags — you do not need to enter PLC addresses.

Tag typeDescription
Vibration (X/Y/Z)Vibration measured on the motor housing
Speed (RPM)Current rotational speed
Load factor (%)Usage relative to rated capacity
TemperatureMotor internal / bearing temperature
CurrentInput current
Diagnostic scoreHealth index calculated by Motor Sense

Which items each motor reports varies slightly depending on the motor manufacturer and sensor module.

Viewing real-time values

Click a registered Motor Sense entry on the [Connections] screen to open the [Tags] screen, where vibration, RPM, temperature, and other values for each motor arrive in real time.

Fast-changing values such as vibration may arrive at a shorter interval than for a general PLC (for example, 200 ms).

Frequently asked questions

Should I register with the OPC-UA card or the Motor Sense card?

If you are using a Motor Sense module, always register it with the [Motor Sense] card. Communication works if you register it as OPC-UA, but automatic asset discovery will not run, so you would have to enter every motor manually.

The motor list is empty

The three most common causes:

  1. The Motor Sense OPC-UA server is not running — ask your Motor Sense contact to check
  2. The server IP or port is wrong — verify it again
  3. The gateway cannot reach that IP — ask your system administrator to check the network
How many motors can I attach to one gateway?

There is no software limit. However, vibration data is high in volume, so the recommended number depends on the gateway PC specification. Typically 30 to 50 motors per gateway is stable.
